May 2, 2019
I wanted to share with you the results of the election from
Sunday, but first let me say thanks to everyone who accepted the nomination and
allowed their name to be on the ballot.
This was the first time in several years where we had more people
willing to serve than we would elect.
Leadership is a big commitment and responsibility and there seems to be
a shortage in most churches today.
Most pastors I speak with agree we have a leadership crisis in
our churches. Too many pastors import
business principles into the local church, without much regard for what the
Bible says about the requirements and responsibilities of church leadership. The Bible is clear, leaders in the local
church must lead by example. This is our
primary responsibility (Hebrews 13:7).
Thanks to everyone who is willing to lead by example with or
without an elected title in our church.
Sunday we elected to the church board: Janeth Flores, Clara Jo
Hinshaw, Angelica Lopez, Lupita Ordonez, Cristina Perez Rivera, Faith Shimko,
Miguel Cruz, Nick Heer, Salomon Lopez, Norman Karns and Richard Vargas. Nelly Bertrand was reelected as our local
missionary president. Our three
delegates we elected to represent us at the District Assembly are Crystal Cruz,
Miguel Cruz and Todd Hunter.
District
Assembly July 14-16
Let me encourage you to mark your calendar for our Kansas
District Assembly this year in Hutchinson.
On Monday evening we will have a special ordination service for those
ministers who have completed their education requirements, service requirements
and have been acknowledged by the church as having a call from God to serve as
a pastor. This year Pastor Eva Cruz will
be ordained as an elder in the International Church of the Nazarene.
Graduation
Recognition
I will leave tomorrow for Olathe where Stephanie and I will
attend Ashley’s graduation from MidAmerica Nazarene University on Saturday
morning, with a degree in Elementary Education.
All of you have participated in her education with your prayers and
financial support through our giving to MidAmerica Nazarene University. Kobe Lovan will be graduating in this class
as well.
This Sunday, May 5th after the worship service we will
recognize our High School graduate Lydia Dages with a reception in the
Fellowship Hall. If you would like to
give her a card of encouragement or a gift you are more than welcome to do so
at this time. Lydia plans to attend Mid
America Nazarene University in the fall so let’s pray for her and her future
plans as she seeks God’s leading.
Membership
Class
Pastor Eva and I are planning to have another membership class
starting Sunday morning May 19th during the Sunday school hour. Please let us know if you are interested in
taking this class.
I look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday.
Pastor Andy
