Enote From Pastor Andy 12-19-19

December 19, 2019

Dear Eastridge Family,

The Great Missionary Hudson Taylor wrote, “All of God’s giants of the faith have been weak men who did great things for God because they reckoned on God being with them.”  When we think about Christmas we should think of the coming of Jesus, God with us, Emmanuel.

God chose not to leave us alone in our sin and darkness.  God has come to rescue us from our slavery to sin.  God has come to bring salvation.  God has come to give us life.
God does not come to take us out of the world.  Instead God wants us to be a light for others.  God wants us to share the Good News with a lost and hurting world.  This is a task too big if it were left up to us alone to complete.  God does not leave us alone.  He has promised to go with us as we share this Good News with others.

Joshua 1:9 (NIV) “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) “…Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

This Sunday we will celebrate communion together as a family.  This is always a special time to remember the blessings of Jesus joining humanity to be with us…Emmanuel…God with us.

Following the worship service, the children will celebrate with a pinata.

We will not have our Wednesday evening prayer service for the next two weeks.  Our prayer service will resume on January 8th at 7pm

Josué 1:9 (NVI) “Ya te lo he ordenada: ¡Se fuerte y valiente!

Enote From Pastor Eva

Hello dear family of Eastridge!
This week I was meditating on the beautiful book of Ephesians and although I had already read it before, this time I experienced something different. Every word, every verse, every chapter has captivated me in a very special way. Today I am sharing a part of chapter 1 that has touched my heart:
Ephesians 1:3-8 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,”
Ephesian 1:11-14 “In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the Gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession- to the praise of His glory.”
I have bolded the words that give praise to God and those that stated that we have been rescued, redeemed to praise the glory of God. Hallelujah! Paul refers three times that our purpose for which we were predestined, chosen and saved is to praise the glory of God. What a privilege that you and I by the grace, mercy and incomparable love of God have been chosen to praise Him!
Generally, every time we think of praise, we relate it to singing songs only. And of course, we praise God by singing praises, hymns or Psalms, but that is one of many ways we can praise Him. The Bible teaches us that He chose us before the creation of the world to be holy and spotless before Him… to praise His glory! When I decide to live in obedience and holiness, my life is a praise for His glory because I reflect His love and His compassion, therefore people believe in God. As a result, I accomplish God’s mission that he has entrusted me with: “go and make disciples...”
I invite you to meditate on the following questions: Am I living my life to praise God? Does everything I do daily with my family, in my work/business, in my school or college, praise God? If you don’t have an answer, I invite you to pray and read the Bible in a humble and sincere attitude before God and listen to Him teaching you how to live in a praise of Him.
I make Paul’s first sentences in chapter 3 of Ephesians verse 14 my prayer; “For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. I asked that, through the Spirit and with the power that comes from his glorious riches” : Help us to live with the sole purpose of living every second of our life praising God in everything we do with our life, gifts, family, money- everything we think, everything we say and everything we want. Amen!
With the love of Christ, pastor Eva!

*Fall Cleaning: Tomorrow Saturday October 12th from 9am to 12 pm. Come and enjoy the blessing of taking part in the privilege of cleaning the house of God.   We hope to see you!
*Financial Training: Yes, brother Todd is teaching free classes of how to manage the money you receive from God and how you can praise Him with the way you use it. The training consists of four classes on Saturdays at 7pm to 8:30pm at the fellowship hall. He started the first session last Saturday, but if you, like me, couldn’t attended, we have good news: Brother Todd is willing to make-up the session of the first class tomorrow at 6pm.
*Another way to praise God is by helping to bring cleaning items to clean the temple. You could also help by bringing paper plates, cups and cutlery, trash bags, toilet paper, etc. As we know our church’s finances are not in good condition, so we will greatly help if you can donate some things that are needed for the work of God’s work here at Eastridge. The stewards have worked on an inventory of cleaning and disposable items to know exactly what is needed at this time. This Sunday at the entrance of the church on a table will be some examples of some cleaning supplies and other needed materials to help us know exactly what to donate and there will be a sign-up sheet as well. In addition, next to the table will be a box where you can place your donation.  Thank you very much for your cheerful contribution!

October 4, 2019
A couple of years ago Stephanie and I read a book “Captive in Iran.”  It was a powerful account of two Iranian Christians who were arrested for sharing Christianity with others.  Another book recently was written describing the rapid growth of Christianity in Iran, it is entitled, “Too Many to Jail.”  Last week I saw a report saying the fastest growing church in the world is found in Iran and it is led mostly by women.
I was intrigued and began to do a little research.  Since the spread of Christianity in Iran is an underground movement it is hard to find definitive  statistics.  Recently a documentary was released entitled “Sheep Among Wolves.”  They were able to interview some of these church leaders and their stories were powerful.
One believer said in the video that they understand the danger of participating in the Iranian Awakening, but it is a risk they must take.  “We know that if they get us, the first thing they will do to us as a woman is rape us and then they will beat us and ultimately they will kill us.  This is the decision we have made that we want to offer our bodies as sacrifices.  Because I have this thought when I wake up, that when I leave, that door I might not come back."
It is no wonder the church is growing.  When the disciples of Jesus have this passion to share the Good News no matter the cost, it is not a surprise God is blessing.   The church is without buildings, property or central leadership, but still, it is steadily growing.  The movement's aim is not to plant churches, but to grow discipleship.
What a contrast between the Disciples of Jesus in Iran and the Disciples of Jesus in Wichita.  May God forgive us, and may God help us to become more like Jesus and these Iranian Christians.
Pastor Andy

I mentioned last Sunday a little about our financial situation as a church.  Our church board and leadership team has some difficult decisions to make.  Here is the giving record for the past 9 weeks…the total amount needed to meet budget for those 9 weeks is $33,300…the total amount we raised is $27,406 which leaves us with a shortfall of $5,894.  Please pray for our leaders as they seek God’s wisdom and direction for our church.

Enote 9-25-19

Tonight we are meeting at the church at 6:30pm to distribute flyers in the neighborhood advertising our outreach event on Saturday.  We will then gather in the sanctuary for a time of prayer as soon as we finish with the flyers.

Each year we try to have 3 or 4 church wide events to connect with the neighborhood and the unchurched.  We need all the help we can get for the event on Saturday.  Currently we are trying to scale back our activities based upon the number of people who have committed to help on Saturday.  Be sure to invite your friends...and please join us in prayer for this event.

Here are a couple quotes I recently read and I wanted to share with you:
God has apparently given Himself a self-imposed restriction - to act in the affairs of man in response to prayer. God has chosen to work through us. We are his delegated authority on earth and prayer is the vehicle that gives occasion for His invasion - Bill Johnson

What the Church needs is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more and novel methods, but men whom the Holy Ghost can use—men of prayer. [He] does not flow thru methods but thru men, not on machinery but on men, not anoint plans but men of prayer. - E. M. Bounds

Enote - Spanish 9-25-19

- E. M. Bounds

Enote From Pastor Andy 8-29-19

August 29, 2019

Dear Eastridge Family,

Have you ever considered how you would answer the question, “What is the purpose and mission of Eastridge?”  We talk about making disciples.  We talk about the privilege and power of prayer.  We talk about worship.  What do we do that no other church can or will do?  Is there anything unique to Eastridge Church of the Nazarene?
Recently came across a letter in John Wesley’s journal that caused me to stop and pause and think about his words.  On February 8, 1766 John Wesley, the key founder of the Wesleyan/Methodist/Nazarene tradition, wrote a letter to one of the early Methodist preachers.  After the brief greeting of “My Dear Brother” he got straight to the point.

Where Christian perfection is not strongly and explicitly preached, there is seldom any remarkable blessing from God; and, consequently, little addition to the society, and little life in the members of it.  Therefore, if Jacob Rowell is grown faint, and says but little about it, do you supply his lack of service.  Speak and spare not.  Let not regard for any man induce you to betray the truth of God.  Till you press the believers to expect full salvation now, you must not look for any revival.

In a time when the need for the revival in the church in America seems as obvious as ever, what would John Wesley say about the prospects of revival?  Based on the above letter, he would say we have no right to expect revival because we have not been pressing Christians to expect full salvation now.

As Wesley looked back over the more than fifty years of Methodism and thought about the work that he had seen God do during these years, he zeroed in on one particular doctrine as the key explanation for why God had done this surprising thing in his lifetime.  The belief in entire sanctification, or full sanctification, was the reason for Methodism.

Methodism exists because God gave us a particular corporate calling – to preach and teach that through faith in Jesus Christ it is possible experience full salvation from sin’s power in your life.  The Church of the Nazarene was started in 1908 when church leaders felt like the Methodist church had lost it way and failed to preach full salvation.

How are we doing today?  Has the Church of the Nazarene lost its way?  Has Eastridge Church failed to preach and teach full salvation from the guilt and power of sin?
May we never stop preaching and teaching Christian Perfection.  God’s grace is greater than all of our sin, not just in the future but right here and right now.

Martinez will be on Friday evening September 13th @7pm.  He will speak again on Saturday the 14th at 6pm and again on Sunday morning during our worship time and that evening at 6pm.

Make these special services a matter of prayer that we might draw closer to God and that we might see a revival begin here at Eastridge.

  • Sunday School and Missions invite each Eastridge member to be part of the big outreach church wide: MISSION POSSIBLE. It will be on Saturday, September 28th from 11 am to 3pm at our church. Nota Electronica Pastor Andy 8-29-19

Habla y no retengas. No debes buscar ningún avivamiento.

Enote From Pastor Eva - 8-22-19

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Mark 10:21

This young man had many reasons to be happy: social status, material goods... he lived an exemplary life. He kept God’s commandments since he was a child. The story tells us that upon seeing him, Jesus “loved him”. This love with which Jesus saw the young man with revealed to him what was holding the young man back from eternal life. Not only was the problem revealed, but so was the solution: “sell all of your belongings and give it to the poor and you shall have treasures in heaven and follow me.”
That message applies to us as well! Jesus sees us and he loves us, and he wants to show us what’s holding us back. For the young man in the story, his possessions were standing between him and God. In our case, what is so hard to give up that it’s holding us back from following God? What should
you abandon in order to get closer to God? It is my prayer that you allow God, He who loves you, to speak to you through love and that you may listen so that revelations may occur. What are you missing? In addition, I pray that you do not repeat the same mistake the young man made... Due to his love of possessions and wealth, sadly walked away from Jesus with a conflicted heart. It’s not about earning eternal life, like the young man saw it, but it’s about having the faith to follow Jesus. It’s about cutting off whatever tethers us to this world and that which inhibits us from consecrating our lives to Jesus. It’s about allowing Jesus to not only be Savior of our lives, but also Lord of our lives.
With love in Christ, Pastor Eva.

Nota Electronica 8-22-19
