E-Note From Pastor Andy 7-9-16

July 9, 2016

Dear Eastridge Family,

E. Stanley Jones once wrote, "My trained ear shall hear His voice and my disciplined will shall act upon it."  As a pastor this is one of the most common questions I get from people, “How can I hear from God?”  Tomorrow I plan to start a sermon series on how to hear God’s voice.

One of our Discipleship habits (BELL) is listening to God.  I will look at John 10 tomorrow and discover truths from God's Word on hearing from God.

District Assembly
Kansas District Assembly will be held July 10-12, 2016 at Wichita First Church of the Nazarene.  The opening service is Sunday evening at 7PM.  On Monday morning we will have the missionary convention and Tuesday will be our church assembly with pastor’s reports from across the Kansas district.

MNU Matching Scholarship
On Sunday July 17th we will receive our MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) Church Matching Scholarship offering.  MNU will match dollar for dollar of what we collect up to $500 per student.  This year we have four students Annalise Heer, Ashley Heer, Sarah Heer and Olga Vargas.
The Nazarene Church has a long history of supporting higher education.  We believe it is important to raise up Christian leaders in every vocation like teachers, nurses, doctors, lawyers as well as pastors and missionaries.  This is why each church partners with a regional university or college to offer support for this mission.

Missionary Speaker Dave and Kim Hane - Sunday morning July 31
Dave and Kim Hane are missionaries with the Church of the Nazarene and serve in Singapore in the Asia-Pacific regional office.  Dave and Kim were first appointed as missionaries in 1991 and were assigned to the regional office, then located in Manila, Philippines.  In 2006, they moved with the regional office team to the current location in Singapore.

Dave serves as the Regional Personnel coordinator and JESUS Film coordinator. He is also coordinator of AsiaServe, a program designed to place more English speaking Nazarene school teachers and administrators in strategic countries on the region.

In addition to being a full-time mom, Kim assists in regional office duties as needed.   Dave and Kim are also involved in ministry to international students studying in Singapore and serve as pastor coordinators for a church plant.

The Hanes have two children.  Jonathan will be starting his senior year at Southern Nazarene University in August 2016, and Joy will be entering 9th grade in Singapore.

Youth Group Work and Witness from Olathe
Josh Heer is bringing some of his youth group from the Living Hope Church of the Nazarene where he serves in Olathe.  They will arrive on August 5th and stay until August 7th.  They plan to help with a Saturday outreach for children similar to the Peanut Butter and Jelly Kids Club we have done in the past.  They will be canvassing the neighborhood in preparation for the event.
We have opportunities for everyone to help.  We need places for the kids to stay while here in Wichita, some supplies and we need helpers for the event.  There are sign-up sheets in the entryway of the church.  Also if you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt the cost will be $10 and we need the money before we can place the order.

Box tops
We have a box in the entryway to collect box tops and Campbell soup labels.  If you have been collecting them please bring them to the church and we will send them off to Sun Valley Indian School to help purchase equipment, including a van.  (Please make sure you bring the whole Campbell’s label, the UPC code is needed).

I look forward to worshipping with you tomorrow!
Andy Heer

E-Note From Pastor Andy 7-1-16

July 1, 2016

Dear Eastridge Family,

This weekend we will celebrate America’s Independence from the tyrannical King of England.  God has been good to America and we have been blessed as a nation.  This blessing did not come because we are better.  This blessing has come because we humbled ourselves before the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  This blessing came because we have attempted to obey God’s Word not just as individuals but also as a nation.

You don’t need to be a prophet to recognize the need for a revival in America.  We have turned our back on God and His Word.  It is time for God’s people to humble themselves and repent.  It is time for God’s people to go in prayer and intercede for a lost and dying world.

In the movie The Patriot, Benjamin Martin's sister-in-law attempted to comfort him, defending his initial decision not to fight the British.  "You have done nothing for which to be ashamed," she said.

Martin's powerful and poignant response was, "I have done nothing. For that I am ashamed."

God forbid this would become the tragic epitaph of believers in America.  May we, like Martin, awaken to the cause and fight the spiritual battle that lies before us.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast
Saturday morning at 7:30am we will gather in the Fellowship Hall for a time of prayer, fellowship and food.  All men are invited to join us.  Todd Hunter is sharing the devotional this month and Enrique Vargas is bringing breakfast.
